Dawson Cole’s art gallery in Carmel
Once we visited Dawson Cole art gallery in Carmel we set out to visit the other 2 around California. The gallery in Carmel-by-the-sea is the second most impressive out of three. It houses full size statues as well as multiple miniature pieces. Richard McDonald’s magnus opus – the Cirque Du Soleil acrobats will forever cast his name onto sculpture analogues and perhaps study materials for the new cohorts of artists.
Signature hyper-realistic poses displaying emotions and most importantly meticulous details of his subjects undoubtedly will imprint unmistakable hand of artist into your memory. He’s an art genius who continues to surprise the viewers with a narrative. A single statue translates so much passion that it might be difficult to comprehend the depth of the vision. Only after studying the sculpture one can truly begin to grasp the life captured in an instantaneous moment.
Cirque Du Soleil acrobats
Rudolf Khametovich Nureyev (ballet, contemporary dancer and choreographer) statue is a conversation on its own. In fact every piece by McDonald seem to have a meaningful back story. A life long journey to a moment of epiphany – a moment that enthralled sculptor artfully transferred onto his choice of medium.
Richard McDonald successfully transferred athletes and acrobat’s natural positions with overtones of light enchantment. Yet, the bodies appear natural enough to truly be considered real. It’s an interplay between surreal and super-human.
Furthermore, Richard’s sculptures are always balanced around the center of gravity. Meaning that they rotate 360 degrees once placed on a circular marble pedestal. Not only that these pieces are amazing on their own the artists purposely choose to make them dynamic, further captivating the admirers.
Dawson Cole art gallery with kids
The other two locations for Dawson Cole galleries are in the Palm Desert (near Palm Springs) and Laguna Beach in Orange County. While you’re exploring Carmel-By-The-Sea with your children, add a few galleries to your list.
Dawson Cole art gallery in Carmel is a perfect place to check out even with a toddler (as long as he/she stay in their stroller). Spacious gallery allows for free passage between the statues and your child won’t have chance to grasp onto the art pieces. Our son was of course very much impressed by the spinning nature of the pieces.
