Best time to visits Griffith observatory museum
Hiking to the Griffith observatory museum! The following hike is very popular among the tourist, nonetheless it doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy it as well. To avoid the nosy annoying visitors we recommend that you arrive at the trail head as early as you can. A good window of opportunity is from 5:00 -8:00 am. In fact, why not greet the sunrise with an early morning ascent.
The observatory is closed on Mondays and so it is probably the best time to hike the trail. During the remaining week it’s open from 12pm-10pm and from 10am-10pm on the weekends. It is possible to simply drive all the way up to the observatory in case you’re not feeling scaling a steep dusty road. We’d recommend to simply drive up to the observatory parking lot located at the top of the hill if you’re simply trying to save time.
Griffith observatory museum hike with kids
The majority of the trail is a climb up, although the trail is fairly short. This path will get your heart pumping and reward you with breath taking views at the top of the mountain. It probably not the most ideal hike for toddlers, especially if you have to carry them. Nonetheless, I would say that it’s definitely possible to walk up the steep hill even with a carry-on =)
Definitely would recommend it for older kids, in fact we see families walking around Griffith observatory all the time. Locals and tourists just love the Griffith park, picture worthy views from the observatory are an absolute must on anyone’s bucket list.

We also would like to recommend checking out the observatory itself. There are many cool modern exhibits to check out. Learn about planets and other heavenly bodies. You can check out some entertaining and informative clips at the museum, and see what it’s like to travel to space!

Sunset at Griffith observatory museum
If you’d like to watch the sunset in the observatory’s park expect crowds of people which are typical, especially on the weekends. Besides being an overly popular attraction this is one of our favorite hikes since the views from this hike are amazingly photogenic.
It is also possible to drive up to the overlook, however if you have about an hour to spare we firmly recommend taking the trail. From the top galleria the city opens up to you from north to south and from east to west like a paper-map.
Don’t forget your camera!
