Tilden Park Train – operating miniature steam engines in the Bay Area!
OMG! This is Ultimately the best thing that you can do with your toddlers in all of San Francisco Bay area! Boys and girls alike go wild just at the sight of real miniature steam engine at the Redwood Valley Railway aka Berkeley kid train. Taking a ride on the micro steam engine is an absolute must if you live in San Francisco Bay Area or visiting East Bay with your kids.

Remember when you were a little steam engine steam engine operator ?
Who hasn’t dreamed of having a toy railway set? All the guys probably wanted to become a steam engine engineer at some point, blow the horn, tow the cargo and take that steamer up the hills of Rocky Mountains! Protect the valuables from raids and safely make it across the continental US.

Well, maybe I’ve watched too many western movies and read too many adventure novels, although I might be completely certain that this would be a one-of-a-kind experience in all of Bay Area! You’ve get to ride a miniature Steam Engine in an open car or a boxcar of your choice through the Redwoods of Berkley Hills at Tilden Regional Park.

Furthermore there is a whole little town of electric trains which you can also ride, BTW absolutely for FREE. Located on the site bellow the Redwood Valley steam engine tracks.

Berkeley kid train is #1 interactive experience in the Bay Area for your kids !
I personally haven’t had so much fun since I was a kid myself. Most importantly our little guy was literally jumping for joy and eye balling every little detail of the train. Our son was pointing fingers, making “toot toot” sound and generally enjoying the time. This goes all the way to the top of the most interactive experiences in the SF Bay area. We’ve been back to ride the Tilden Train twice already and I’m convinced we’ll be back again!

Berkeley kid train cost:
$3 for a single ride or $12 for 5 rides, FREE for kids under 2 years. The ride lasts about 10 minutes or so. There’s a bit of a queue because this place is so popular.

Additionally, located within short driving range from Berkeley kid train are the Tilden Park merry go round & Tilden park little farm. These two spots should definitely make it into your itinerary while exploring the area in Berkeley. Also, depending on the season (preferably during the spring month) head out to Berkeley’s Botanical gardens to see some California wild flowers and some exotic plans from all of the world. Check out East Bay Regional Park District website for more info on the steam engine and other entertainment activities in the park for the your kids.

Have fun !
